Governors at our school

At Lowfield Primary School we have a diverse governing body consisting of 

  • 1 LA governor

  • 3 Parent governors

  • 3 Co-opted governors

  • 1 Staff governors

The governing body meet as a full board as well as two committees. These are the learning and achievement committee and the resources committee.

​

The Full Governing Body meet termly and have the terms of reference detailed below.

​

The board provides support and challenge regrading:

  • Meeting  statutory duties

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff

  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

  • How well the school is performing

  • The strategic direction of the school and that this meets all pupils’ needs

 

 

The Learning and Achievement Committee meet each half term and have the terms of reference detailed below.

​

This committee provides support and challenge regarding:

  • How well all children are progressing / attaining in all areas, including science.

  • How new strategies are making learning better for children

  • How well children with special educational needs and disabilities are being supported

  • How more able and less able children are being challenged

  • How children’s behaviour for learning is evidenced and the impact it has on progress

  • Attendance and punctuality

  • How children are given other opportunities to learn and grow through the wider curriculum, i.e. school plays, sports days, educational visits etc.

  • Wider learning partnerships

 

The Resources Committee meet termly and have the terms of reference detailed below.

This committee provides support and challenge regarding:

  • How the budget is spent and the impact of the expenditure on pupil outcomes

  • The school’s performance management processes and the impact this has in the classroom.

  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD)  and the impact it has in the classroom on pupil outcomes

  • How we keep the school building and grounds safe and secure

  • How effective safeguarding is in school

  • What the children think about the school

  • How the school engages with parents and the community
