Maths at Lowfield Primary School
At Lowfield Primary School we strive for teaching excellence when delivering maths to our pupils.
Our Vision
Maths Mastery with Power Maths
Power Maths is our Maths Mastery Programme that is successfully used across all year groups to promote maths mastery throughout the school. Power Maths is:
-
An enriched approach that cleverly combines interactive teaching tools, rich and quality textbooks and practice books.
-
Built around a child‑centred lesson design that models and embeds a growth mindset approach to maths and focuses on helping all children to build a deep understanding of maths concepts.
Maths in the Home
Lowfield Primary School encourages home learning of the following aspects of maths:
-
Telling the date and time (analogue + digital)
-
Understanding money
-
Times table practise
-
Understanding units of measurements (mm, cm, ml etc.)
These everyday elements of maths practised regularly in the home can help our pupils to create links between abstract and real life maths.
Lowfield's Calculation Policy
Lowfield has developed its own calculation policy for each year group to show what areas should be covered in maths. It shows the different representation teachers will use with the children in class. Each area links with the new National Curriculum and shows techniques for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
